HE Ozalj 1

Run-of-river dam-toe plant with daily accumulation, on the right bank of the middle Kupa in the town of Ozalj -- one of Croatia's oldest hydro plants STILL producing power in its original building, commissioned 1908 as "Munjara grada Karlovca" (Karlovac City Power House), originally for Karlovac's street lighting. The powerhouse is a protected cultural monument (registered 2007) - an example of early-20th-century industrial neo-romantic architecture. 2 Francis units from 1908, a 3rd added 1913 (total capacity rose 2.2MW to 3.3MW originally); partial reconstruction 2017 raised unit rating to 1.34MW each (3x1.34=4.02MW nameplate vs. the table's stated "currently available" 3.54MW, used here). Shares one dam (7.5m high, 77m long, gravity type, raised 0.5m in 1952) and reservoir (1.4 hm3 total / 0.55 hm3 useful, max level 120.63m) with HE Ozalj 2 across the river -- net head 9.2m for both. Combined installed flow for both Ozalj plants is 85 m3/s. Draws on a ~2,190 km2 catchment of the upper/middle Kupa. Part of GHE Gojak (with HE Gojak and HE Lesce), under Centar proizvodnje Zapad -- treated as a separate row from HE Ozalj 2 despite sharing one HEP page, since these are two fully independent historic plants (44 years apart, opposite riverbanks, different turbine types) rather than a main+small-ABM-unit pairing.
